Boxes for shipping bottles

Wine, oil or beer: glass is heavy and fragile. Here is how to choose the box so your bottles arrive in one piece.

Gift or shipping?

The first question is where the bottle is going:

  • as a gift or for sale in a shop: looks matter, so a box with a handle, a window or printing;
  • by courier: protection matters, so bottles kept apart and a strong board.

Often you need both: an attractive pack inside and a strong box outside.

One bottle: the bottle carrier

For a single bottle there is the bottle carrier: a self-assembly box with a snap-lock bottom, a handle on top and a window on the front, which folds together without tape or glue. It suits bottles up to 1.5 litres.

You can draw it with your own dimensions in Design your box, with your logo between the handle and the window.

More bottles: dividers

When there is more than one bottle, they must not touch. A divider is a cardboard grid that goes inside the box and makes a cell for each bottle, so glass does not knock against glass.

We make boxes to measure for the number of bottles you need, including special formats such as oil or beer bottles.

For couriers: double wall and double protection

For shipping, use double wall board, which stands up better to knocks and crushing. For the most delicate bottles there is the double protection box: an inner box inside the outer one, so the knock hits the board and not the glass.

Double protection: the inner box reinforces the outer one.

Writing "Fragile" on the box helps, but it is not enough: what really protects the bottle is the right board and a bottle that cannot move inside.

How to measure the bottle

  • Height: from the bottom to the top of the cork or capsule.
  • Diameter: at the widest point, usually the body of the bottle.
  • Bottles of the same capacity can have very different shapes: measure the one you will actually use.

All the tips are in the guide How to measure a box.

The bottle must already be sealed with its own cap: the box is the outer packaging, with no direct contact with the drink.

Frequently asked questions

Do you make boxes for oil and beer, not just wine?

Yes: we make boxes for wine, oil and beer bottles, including made-to-measure boxes for special formats.

Can I have my logo on the bottle carrier?

Yes. With a logo or colour the minimum is 100 pieces, and before production we make a sample for you to approve.

Can dividers be added to a box I already have?

Tell us the dimensions of the box and of the bottles: we will tell you whether a made-to-measure divider can be made for that box.
